Out and About
In 1935-6, en route to and from a last visit with his Guru in India, Paramahansaji stopped in England.
Based in London on both occasions, he gave a series public lectures and classes, all of which were received with great enthusiasm.
Ever the curious traveller, he and his party also found time to explore the nooks and crannies of London, Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-on-Avon and enjoy the beauty of the Lake District and Scotland.

The London Lectures
The talks and classes he gave all attracted huge audiences. So much so, that additional events had to be added to cater for the hundreds of people unable to gain entrance.
The power of his message and his unique delivery won over not only the public but the press too. Of the London devotees, he later had this to say:
English tenacity has an admirable expression in a spiritual relationship. The London yoga students loyally organised themselves, after my departure, into a Self-Realization Fellowship center, holding their meditation meetings weekly throughout the bitter war years.
The flame of that spirit continues to burn brightly here.
