Sunday School
What happens at Sunday School? Self-Realization Fellowship Sunday School classes focus on the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and will typically include Self-Realization Fellowship chants, energization exercises, craft activities, an instruction period, offertory, prayer and meditation.
Who may attend Sunday School? Our Sunday Schools are open to any child from the age of four. Each child must have the consent of his parents or guardian to attend. Sunday School sessions are not generally open to the parents except in limited circumstances such as a child in the younger age-group attending for the first time.
What happens at the Teens Group? Our Teens Group sessions are also based on the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and will include instruction and discussion periods, Self-Realization Fellowship chants and energization exercises, offertory, prayer and meditation.
We periodically hold Family Services where all children, accompanying adults and all Sunday School and Teens Group volunteers spend some special time together in the Chapel after the main Service. This will include prayer, chants, brief periods of meditation and, occasionally, story-telling or even a performance.
If there is enough interest, there will a Christmas Sunday school on Sunday December 15th. This would run parallel to the Sunday Inspirational Service so that parents can attend the service from 11am to 12.00. Children aged from 5 to 12 can attend, as long as a younger child is comfortable being left by themselves. At present we do not have enough volunteers with DBS checks to help with a younger child who needs more assistance. Children can be brought to the Sunday school room from 10.50 am but the Sunday School room will not be ready for them before that.
If there is enough interest, there will also be a short family service in the Chapel at about 12.05 after the Sunday Inspirational Service.
If you would be interested in sending any children to the Sunday school or Family service, then for planning purposes, please contact our Sunday School Team sundayschool@srf-london.org.uk or contact Priyanka Rajdev ( p.rajdev@srf-london.org.uk ) as soon as possible so we can know if there is enough interest for these events to go ahead.
Young Adults
Young Adults is a group for 18-40 year olds who are passing through that phase of life referred to in Hindu philosophy as the ‘householder stage’. This is when we are discovering, developing, growing, and becoming; seeking to define our life goals, our work and place in society, as well as in family and community life.
At the same time, we are cultivating a spiritual life and weaving it into the fabric of our daily lives. To this end, we have chosen the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and his lineage to both guide and inspire us.
Self-Realization Fellowship Young Adults (YA) groups offer a warm welcome and spiritual fellowship for new seekers. Our prime purpose is to help young adults to establish a personal connection with the guiding light of SRF and so lay a solid foundation for their lives. Yogananda’s teachings are extremely broad in scope, covering all aspects of life, and yet are very personal in their application.
The YA group provides an environment that encourages true friendship and spiritual fellowship for young adults as they move towards becoming Lessons students and Kriya disciples.
We meet on the first Sunday of every month from 12:15pm to 1.30pm in the meeting room adjacent to the chapel. You are more than welcome to come and join us!
