Tuesday Meditation

The Meditation Service (19:00–21:00) consists of two longer periods of meditation. Each service begins with a prayer, a reading and a chant. There is another chant between the two periods of meditation. The service concludes with the Worldwide Prayer Circle and Healing Technique. To preserve the silence and stillness in the chapel, we kindly ask that you don’t enter or leave during the meditations.

On the 3rd Tuesday of each month a kirtan group accompanies the chanting using traditional Indian instruments.

Energization Exercises
Prior to this service there are group Energization Exercises in the garden, as taught in the SRF Lessons.

Thursday Reading Service

The Reading Service (19:00–20:30) is based on readings from the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. This services includes devotional chanting, a reading, an affirmation and periods of silent meditation.

Those new to the path may find this service more accessible as there are short two periods of meditation and one longer one of 25-30 mins.

Sunday Inspirational Service

09:30 – 10:50 Meditation Service
11:00 -12:00 Inspirational Service

Following the early meditation service, the Inspirational Service includes a reading, chanting, an affirmation and periods of meditation concluding with the practice of the Worldwide Prayer Circle Healing Technique.

As with Thursdays, those new to the path may find the inspirational service more accessible as the meditations are shorter.

Kirtans

Kirtan services are held on the 4th Sunday of every month. Kirtan is devotional chanting to God, accompanied by traditional Indian musical instruments such as the harmonium, tablas, cymbals, bells, and tambura; periods of silent meditation are also included. The emphasis is on Paramahansa Yogananda’s Cosmic Chants.

‘One who sings these spiritualized songs, Cosmic Chants, with true devotion will find God-communion and ecstatic joy, and through them the healing of body, mind, and souls.’

Long Meditations

Long Meditations are held on the 1st Saturday of every month 10:00 – 13:00

Participating members feel an increase in devotion and concentration when meditating in a group. It also provides help and encouragement when sitting for longer periods.

When devotees meditate together, they often find that they are able to make a greater spiritual effort, which helps them to achieve a deeper state of stillness and to experience God’s presence in a more tangible way.

‘United minds are bigger channels through which God’s power flows in a mightier way to individual souls.’

Commemorations

Along with SRF temples and centres around the world, we hold Commemoration services to honour the birthdays and mahasamadhis (a yogi’s final, conscious exit from the body) of the SRF line of Gurus.

These services are an opportunity to express our love, reverence, appreciation for the Guru being honoured. Paramahansaji said:

‘Commemoratives of a God-realized soul should not be belittled as merely a social ceremony. It is a deeply spiritual occasion on which the vibrations of blessing from an illumined master are stronger than on other days in the year, because in the astral world, also, a celebration is taking place…’

It is customary to bring a flower and a monetary offering symbolising devotion and loyalty to the Gurus and the work.

For those aged twelve and above.
